Who said guitar music was dead? The Theme - In This Town EP
Debut is not a word that strikes you when listening to The Theme’s In This Town EP. However staggeringly this showcase of energetic guitar music has been conjured up by a group set up just under a year ago in 2011.
Merging long lost cousins, mod and Britpop into 6
refreshingly nostalgic tracks the fresh 5 piece from South London have sent out
an impressive message with this small but perfectly formed record, showing what
can be achieved in under a year.
Although it is quite easy to sit and draw comparisons track
by track to their major influences there is no denying this collection of
tracks have a certain flair about them. This EP “has got balls” just as lead
singer Gary Davis describes the band, separating them from the dreary but all
to familiar sound of the chart filling indie rock of today.
From lead singles such as ‘Take Me Away’ with its undeniably
addictive lead riff, superbly energetic drumming and powerful vocals right
through to the gentle pitter-patter of ‘Opened My Eyes’ The Theme’s In This
Town ticks all the boxes.
With catchy hooks and beautifully haunting choruses you’ll
be humming these tracks all week. Catch The Theme while you can, they’re going
to be big news.
The Theme - In This Town EP is available now via iTunes.
